Yay! Your hair and make-up trial is now booked in the diary and you can’t wait to start planning your bridal look. But what is the best way to prepare for your appointment? We have been working with brides for over seventeen years and in that time we helped over a thousand - yes! A thousand brides create their dream bridal hair and make-up look. We have answered all of our frequently asked questions below.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO SCHEDULE MY TRIAL?

Experience has shown us that the perfect time to schedule in your trial is 6-8 weeks prior to your wedding date. Because by this time you would have chosen your dress and you can start to visualise your final look. However, if you would like the reassurance of knowing you have picked the right hair and make-up artist for you, please get in touch info@clj-ldn.com and we will get you booked in with your artist ASAP.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO MY TRIAL?

The day has finally arrived for you to meet your artist, but what should you bring? If you have already purchased your hair accessories bring these along with you. Haven’t chosen your accessories yet? Do not fret it will not affect the outcome of your trial. Some of our artists carry a selection of hair accessories in their kit for you to try. Have a selection of pictures of inspiration, this is a great way to communicate your ideas to your stylist. Pinterest is a fantastic app to create a mood board and to get an idea of styles. We have created a board with our real life brides to get you started, you can follow us here. Instagram is also another great platform, with an abundance of inspiration. Please feel free to follow us @clj_ldn where we regularly post images of our brides. Last but not least, don’t forget the good old fashioned magazine!

WHEN SHOULD I WASH MY HAIR?

A lot of people believe that having ‘dirty’ hair will make it easier for us to style your hair. I would say this is personal to each stylist. I personally prefer to work on fresher hair. Therefore washing your hair the night before or on the day of your trial. Always shampoo your hair twice and only add conditioner to the ends of the hair. Feel free to dry your hair as you normally would. Do try to avoid tying your hair up as this causes the hair to kink and go flat.

WHERE WILL MY TRIAL TAKE PLACE?

Your trial can either take place at your home or depending on your stylist, you can travel to them. Please note that a travel charge is applied when your artist travels to you. Please see our T&Cs for prices.

HOW LONG WILL MY TRIAL TAKE PLACE?

Your trial should typically last between 2.5-3 hours for a hair and make-up trial for just yourself (add on 30 minutes for each extra service hair/make-up if more people are having trials) Some trials could take longer if you are unsure of what you are looking for. Please note, from my personal experience trialing out too many styles only leads to confusion. Make sure you do your research. Communicate what you like about certain styles and what you do not like.

SHOULD I PUT MY MAKE-UP ON PRIOR TO THE TRIAL?

It is not necessary for you to put your make-up on prior to your trial. However, if you have a particular style of make-up and would like to show your artist how you normally wear it, please feel free to do your make-up prior. Your artist will talk through your current make-up routine and determine what direction is best for your bridal look. I personally love my brides to look like themselves, at their best. Also, if you have a favourite product you simply cannot live with out, show your artist. They are always more than happy to incorporate it into your look.

HOW WILL YOU REMEMBER WHAT YOU DID?

Your artist will make a full list of notes and take pictures. They will then bring these notes with them on the wedding day. If you want to alter anything, for example, your lip shade just let your artist know on the day and she will make the changes for you. If you decide to have a spray tan, do not worry, your artist will be able to re colour match your foundation before application.

Much Love,
